GNSS satellites position/motion prediction

If you are wondering how Skydel defines and predicts the positions of GNSS satellites, this post is for you!

It is indeed very simple. Skydel uses RINEX data stored by default to determine the position of satellites in the different GNSS constellations. The positions defined by this RINEX data are the ones that you see in the default constellation view every time you start Skydel.

Note that Skydel’s default start date is also set based on the RINEX data. Skydel then uses the ephemeris data contained in the RINEX to define and predict the motion of the GNSS satellites by extrapolating the Keplerian parameters contained in the ephemeris.

The interesting part is that you can upload your own RINEX data and use it to define the position of GNSS satellites for each constellation available in Skydel. The extrapolation of the Keplerian parameters will be done in the same way for the computation of future positions.
